Corpus Usıng ın the Classroom wıth ASSURE Model

 Hello everyone after a long time, my dear followers!! ☀️🌞

I'm here with a new task and this time, we are supposed to create a corpus-based teaching material along with a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model for the target group of EFL learners enrolled in a high school in Turkey. In this study, we worked in groups of three with my dear friends Dilara and Perihan. In this process, we chose a teaching unit from the coursebook that our teacher had provided us with in advance. We were free to choose any grammar or vocabulary item. When it comes to the most important part of the task, the material to be prepared should both require students' use of the corpus and include teacher-mediated corpus use.

We created corpus-based teaching materials through Canva and followed four principles:

1. Test student knowledge
2. Hands-on corpus searches by students 
3. Inductive discovery by students
4. Output exercise

We prepared four different tasks for the students that served these four different purposes. Perihan prepared the first and last ones, Dilara prepared the second, and I prepared the third. We chose since and for as the corpus. We used COCA. It was easy to use, but we had to look for a filter for places we needed to change later. In general, the process was not challenging. We already had certain teaching materials in mind, they were similar to the materials we had seen in our own education process.

The other task, creating a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model. It stands for analyze learners, state objectives, select instructional methods, media and materials, utilize media and materials, require learner participation, evaluate and revise. I didn't have any difficulty in creating it because there was already an example, I got help from it. I just didn't have enough space for what I wanted to write. We had one page for the lesson plan, it wasn't enough.
